The Role
The Insider Threat & Cyber Investigations Specialist reports to the Insider Threat Prevention & Investigations Program Manager. You will identify and investigate potential threats against Airbnb and its workforce from internal and external actors, and develop strategies to mitigate these threats, safeguarding Airbnb’s workforce, assets, and reputation.
Key Qualifications
Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, comfortable working with platforms like Windows, Mac OS, and Google OS. Proficient in analyzing security data such as event logs and authentication logs to identify threats.
Experience managing investigations from start to finish.
Skills in interviewing victims, witnesses, and suspects.
Ability to engage with stakeholders across Info Sec, HR, Employee Relations, Legal, and Engineering.
Experience in case management, documenting cases thoroughly and following up effectively.
Team & Mission
You will join the Airbnb Global Safety & Security (GSS) team, dedicated to ensuring safety and security for our community through proactive risk management. The team includes experts in Global Security Operations, Law Enforcement, Risk Intelligence, Trust & Safety, and more.
Typical Responsibilities
Investigate complex insider risk incidents and digital behaviors, ensuring a thorough process from start to end.
Apply business and legal considerations during investigations, especially in complex third-party incidents.
Develop investigative plans using open source intelligence and technical tools.
Lead incident management as an incident commander.
Conduct interviews with victims, witnesses, and persons of interest, virtually and in person.
Document findings clearly using case management software.
Collaborate with stakeholders to identify new risk mitigation opportunities.
Conduct post-incident reviews to improve practices.
Build relationships with multidisciplinary teams and external partners.
Develop policies and procedures aligned with data privacy and legal standards.
Provide analytics and case data to support risk detection and mitigation strategies.
Communicate complex risk issues effectively to cross-functional teams.
Required Experience & Skills
8+ years in insider threat investigations, law enforcement, counterintelligence, or equivalent private sector experience.
4+ years in cybersecurity, focusing on insider risk remediation and vulnerability management.
Experience interviewing risk actors, witnesses, and impacted individuals.
Knowledge of workplace investigation standards, employment law, and confidentiality practices.
Experience in digital and human domain investigations, incident triage, and cross-functional response.
